Problems (November 2011)

My biggest problem so far, would have to be the drum recording.  With the equipment available to me (basically one microphone), it's proving really difficult to get a good, full sound from my drum set.  Some drum mics would be really nice. Unfortunately they're kind of pricey.  Oh well.

Third Demo (November 2011)

This one turned out a bit rougher than the previous two.  It's a loud, bluesy recording, so it was much more of a challenge to cleanly and clearly capture all the instrumentation with my available equipment.  Hopefully someday, unfortunately probably not during the project, I'll be able to buy some nicer equipment.

Another Demo (November 2011)

Here's another short one I recorded.  This one's got a bit of a cleaner tone since I've learned more on level balancing and bass/treble control in my recording.
*I cheated a bit and used a pre-made drum loop on this one.  Oh well.

I found an awesome website called Soundcloud where I can upload and organize my recordings.

I've also begun attempting to record.  It's a short and rough demo, but it's a start.

First Steps (October 2011)

Since starting my project, I have been attempting to round up anything that will come in handy in the recording process.  So far I have a microphone, some stands, amp, and an awesome software called Mixcraft.  I will be doing the majority of the recording on this program.

Meeting with My Mentor

I met with my mentor, Daniel Hill, this summer at his studio in Nashville.  He gave me some valuable info on the recording industry and the processes that go into making a record.  Unfortunately, due to the distance of his studio from here, this will be my only meeting with Daniel during the course of my project.  But I believe I got more than enough info to get the ball rolling.

Start (September 2012)

After much consideration, I have finally decided to learn about recording music for my IB Personal Project.  My mentor will be my 2nd cousin Daniel Hill, a record executive in the Nashville music scene and President of Cal IV Studios.  Can't wait to get started.
